Dressage Scoring

Wasn't sure if I did well score wise being I know little about it. Last post talks about how the test went. I thought I'd post my score sheet to have it to look back on!

    1. Is that what that means? LOL.. I REALLY need to read about this sport! I didn't know a square halt was possible, but I'm glad it happened! :) Thank you!

    1. Thank you! Any advice on that "too deep" for submission?

    2. You might try giving him more rein and send him forward to the contact with your hands. It sounds like she is looking for a longer frame. His face should be on or in front of the vertical, but never behind it. Read up on the different "frames" or "balance" that judges look for at different levels of dressage. Is that at all helpful?

    3. That makes a lot of sense! Instead of being framed up and tucked under, push forward, a bit down, and into the bit! I'm going to read up now, thanks! :)

  3. Anything above a 6 is great.

Too deep means he's curling behind the bit. That's probably because of that bit you were riding him in before I started with you. It's an evasion that's a result of avoiding the contact, and is resolved by pushing him FORWARD into the contact, rather than pulling his head down. Ride with steady hands (just take the slack out of the reins) and send him FORWARD. (And don't ride in spurs, which just deaden him to leg and make him pissy.)

An 8 on your first test is AWESOME and halting is a lot harder than it sounds. Scoring 7 on his gaits is HUGE since he's a pacing standardbred! Being straight down the centerline is also HUGE.

Overall, this is a wonderful first outing and I'm very proud of you!

    1. So glad to hear! I never ride in that bit, but it was on my dressage bridle..don't worry, I'm still in the full check snaffle! I was just late getting to the barn and didn't have time to change it out. Monday, I'm going to go spur free! Holding anything and being firm seems to help Mr lazy..he doesn't like any form of "go"...not even a cluck! Thank you for being proud! Wouldn't be here without you!
